Family blames medical team for relative's death

GRETNA – A family is suing two doctors, alleging wrongful death in the passing of of a loved one.

Sharon Cuccia Braun, Philip Anthony Braun III and Elizabeth Ellen Braun filed a suit Dec. 22 against Dr. James Moises and Dr. Robert Morales in the 24th Judicial District Court, alleging wrongful death in the passing of Phillip Braun Jr.

According to the claim, Phillip Braun Jr. was admitted to East Jefferson General Hospital on April 17, 2014, with complaints of esophageal rupture and was cared for by Moises. The suit states Braun was not diagnosed correctly and became septic before the proper treatment was granted him.

The lawsuit states Morales failed to relay correct and accurate information to the ER physician, leading to the patient's death Oct. 20, 2014, from complications in relation to his treatment.

The plaintiffs allege Braun lost his chance of survival, lost enjoyment of life, and the survivors suffered medical expenses.

The plaintiffs seek damages in excess of the court's jurisdictional limits and court costs. They are represented by attorney B. Scott Andrews of Dué Guidry Piedrahita Andrews LC in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.

The 24th Judicial District Court Case number 767600.
