A former employee has filed a federal lawsuit accusing ExxonMobil of racial harassment.
Demetric L. Slaughter, a Black woman, filed her complaint against ExxonMobil alleging a history of racial harassment in the workplace. She says she was forced to retire under duress and protest.
Slaughter started her employment with ExxonMobil in May 1990 as a Laboratory Technician and later moved to the Administration Department. She claims she did not voluntarily retire in December 2022 while working as an Inventory Control Analyst Team Lead but was forced to do so after disputing an evaluation made by supervisor Brett Murry.
The plaintiff also accuses Murry of treating her differently from white co-workers Over the previous three years, she says four Black ExxonMobil employees and six Black contractor employees were replaced with white employees.
