A tragic accident at Fort Polk, Louisiana, has led to a lawsuit against two major federal agencies. On May 6, 2025, Maura Greer filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against the United States Department of the Army and the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The lawsuit stems from an incident that resulted in the death of her husband, Logan Greer.

The case details a series of unfortunate events that unfolded on November 1, 2022. Logan Greer was employed by Red River Air Conditioning, Inc., a subcontractor hired by Sauer Construction, LLC. This company was contracted by the defendants to renovate certain barracks at Fort Polk. While performing pressure tests on water piping systems beneath one of these barracks, Logan Greer suffered fatal injuries when a bolt sheared off during testing. The sudden release of pressure caused parts of the system to strike him violently in the face and neck.

According to the complaint filed under the Federal Torts Claim Act (28 U.S.C. § 2671), Maura Greer asserts that her husband's death was due to negligence on part of the defendants. She claims they failed to implement safe testing protocols and ignored warnings about potential dangers associated with their procedures. "Defendants set forth pressure testing protocols that were unreasonably dangerous," states one section of the filing. Additionally, accusations include negligent training and supervision as well as failure to comply with industry safety standards.

Maura Greer is seeking damages for multiple reasons including physical pain and suffering endured by Logan prior to his death, mental anguish, loss of companionship and financial support, as well as funeral expenses. The suit demands compensation sufficient to cover these losses along with judicial interest and court costs.

Representing Maura Greer are attorneys Michael K. Cox and Somer G. Brown from Cox, Cox, Filo, Camel & Wilson LLC based in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The case is presided over by Judge James Cain under Case ID 2:25-cv-00615.
