GRETNA – A Westwego woman is suing the local housing authority for injuries she alleges her daughter received on their property.

Darlene Hicks filed suit against the City of Westwego, Housing Authority of the City of Westwego and the Parish of Jefferson in the 24th Judicial District on July 13.

Hicks claims her minor daughter was walking down Mississippi Street when she tripped over broken concrete and fell. The plaintiff alleges her daughter sustained painful and serious injuries due to the fall.

The defendant is accused of failing to regularly maintain and inspect the street area, failing to timely repair the street area, failing to warn persons to the dangerous and defective street condition and allowing a dangerous condition to exist.

Damages in an amount less than $10,000 are sought for pain and suffering, permanent damage to person, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses and economic damages.

Hicks is represented by Gretna-based attorney Pierre F. Gaudin.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
